Stuttering is not genetic transmitted. Surely, there are some genes that make people more prone to stuttering, but these people are more anxious by nature, more "hurried". It's all in the hands of the parent to acknowledge that kids babble, and must avoid to react or direct the child's attention to his soeech partner. Stuttering is a learned-pattern of talking, stuttering people (with exception of those with brain-damage or other physical illnesses) try to talk "perfectly" as they parents, siblings or teachers told them when they were younger. Lose that "need", behaviour of trying to talk perfectly, nobody does. Start st-st-stuttering freely without tension and it will go away, you will not react to it anymore and people will receive it as being normal. Stuttering is what we do when we try to avoid stuttering. Re-repeating, prolooonging and pauses, uhmms and fillers are naturally used by people and we consider them as fluent. Watch Mort Cooper's YouTube videos on Stuttering. He is (in 1988) years ahead of the all the "research" in Stuttering This is from a 30-year old stutterer. I wish I knew what I'm saying to you here 20 years ago, it must have saved me from a lot of pain and suffering. Short: Have the child and never direct his attention to his speech pattern, which is perfectly normal for a child learning to talk. B-Bye!
