I'm female, 33 years old, been stuttering since I was 7, and in grad school right now, also US. I've let all my professors know that I stutter and I answer my questions with the chat box on Zoom. I miss when it was in person, and I could meet up with people in my classes because at least in person, they could see that I had a stutter and if we joined up to study, I'd usually relax enough to talk mostly fluently. Networking is something I've always struggled with. It sucks. But like someone else here said, the older you get, the less you care about other people's perception of you. I'm still extremely self conscious and I have anxiety out the wazoo, but it's not as crippling as it was when I was 18. If anything, it's made me appreciate the real friends I've made over the years who haven't cared about my speech.
