Don’t cancel!!! I recently went through a phone interview (I’m the WORST over the phone) and multiple on-site interviews for a position I really want and will be great for my career...... so very high stress, which is worse case scenario for my stutter. Here is what helped me: - prepare and practice A LOT. Write down taking points and responses to common questions. Then talk it all out with friends and family or even in your car by yourself. Don’t adhere to a strict script in your mind, keep what you want to say fluid and focus on only getting the idea of what you want to say across. Practice saying the same thing multiple ways. - practice diaphragmatic breathing (google it). It has helped to calm me and somehow helps my speech to not lock up. I’m not as out of breath trying to push words out. - pause before a difficult word/ letter and then try to annunciate it slowly. I know this is easier said than done, but coupled with the breathing I’ve found some relief. - try to be calm about it and view it as not a big deal. Again, easier said than done, but really you can handle the worst case scenario (blowing it) and move on. You really can and it won’t be the end of the world. Very best of luck to you!! We’re all rooting for you!
