I always advocate for speech therapy. A good program can help you with your fluency. I'm not big on piecemeal advice. In my experience, little tips or tricks that help are often short term solutions. I would often find that my stutter would adapt, and what used to help, now became part of my speech impediment. e.g. saying "um" before a block. It helped for a little while, until "um" became a clutter in my speech, and my stutter became "um, um, um, um." What happens on your surname when you go to hit that K sound? The muscles in your face, throat, and mouth? tense? Your breathing? Is your breath stopped? What I was taught was that when you stop your breath, you stop your speech. Hard sounds like K where we tense our throat can stop our breath. Or sounds where we press our lips together, like P. As such, you want to keep your breath flowing. Make sure you have adequate breath before you start speaking. Start your breath before you start speaking. Practice on your one, hitting the K sound so soft that it's imperceptible. Make up some worksheets of words that have the k sound, not just your surname. e.g. Cave. Start your exhale, and hit the K in Cave as softly as the lightest K you can make. Your muscles should be relaxed. When you have really mastered hitting the K super soft, you can try to hit the K slightly harder. But if you find you are tensing or your air is stopping, go back to doing is more softly. I hesitate to share stuff like this. This sort of thing should be part of training you receive from a speech language pathologist that works with you. What I shared is one small part of the fluency training I received. And the therapist would guide me and correct mistakes I was making along the way. Honestly, I fear I'm setting you up for failure more than success. I worked with the speech therapist weekly and practiced daily for six months before applying my fluency in the real world. Best wishes.
