I sold bicycles for a couple summers at a local bike shop, and ended up being the top salesperson there! Even outselling my boss (who stole my commission, but that's another story). At first I really sucked. Like realllyyyy sucked at it. Then I sold my first bike. Could have sold more, but I survived! Something I learned is that the more I actively tried not to stutter, the more I would. Funny how that works, eh? If I just took a step back and focused on actually talking to the customer, I would still stutter, but I'd be able to pause, regroup my thoughts, possibly find a substitute word, and carry on. That was a ton more comforting than fighting through a block or repetition. Phone calls always sucked though. And still do, lol. ​ Not going to lie, if this is your first time at a job where you have to communicate with customers, you will stutter, and you very well might become stressed out which could lead to more stuttering. It's a vicious cycle, unfortunately. When that happens, stop yourself as soon as you can, take a deep breath and remind yourself everything's okay. You're just telling the customer their total, asking whatever your job wants you to ask, etc. You won't lose your job, you won't be laughed at, and you won't be looked down on. If you are, then there's plenty solutions, but the reality is most people aren't shitty. ​ Best of luck, fam. Let us know how it goes tomorrow.
