Not at all. Of course there is money to made, but these pharmaceutical corporations unfortunately only care about profits. There are costs associated with research and development of new drugs, and if the expenses outweigh the potential profits or are outside of their profit margins they will not develop the drug or bring it to market. If nationalizing medicine would decrease funding then how do you explain Cuba developing a lung cancer vaccine? They’re not a wealthy country by any means yet they’re able to innovate and fund something as incredible as that. If anything nationalizing would increase funding because we wouldn’t need to worry about millions and millions of dollars going to pharmaceutical executives. Also, nationalizing medicine would remove the profit motive from the equation completely. Look at the health insurance industry. Lots of insurance plans don’t cover speech therapy, even my union healthcare plan, which is pretty good, doesn’t cover it. But it would be covered under a single payer government run insurance plan like Medicare For All no questions asked.
