I really sympathise with the notion that life would be easier if I were mute. So much of friendly relationships (particularly less in-depth ones that you might form with work colleagues) is based on short informal remarks and conversation. For me, that's not happening. Any comment I make my be long and arduous, and I can often see signs of the other person getting uncomfortable, such as going for small distractions like a sip of tea or organising papers.
