Oh yes… Recently caught a dum-dum at the VA, when I called for an appointment and the phone triage nurse laughed at me for stuttering on my birthdate. I didn’t exactly like that. I called a meeting with the clinic manager and nursing director… Told them that, as a disabled combat veteran with TBIs, I expect a modicum of dignity whenever I call - stuttering or not. Reminded them that I don’t choose this way to speak, and that maybe I wouldn’t if they would ever find me speech therapy services… So… Fuck all of you… They did appeared sorry… Not necessarily for me… But for being caught by someone that can call meetings of senior staff. I am nearly 50. I have a PhD. I’ve done amazing things with people that Hollywood makes movies about. In my experience, the ridicule of the stutterer never ends… So you better get tough and learn to give as good as you get. Never suffer a bully and never pass them off to the next person with a stutter.
