My parents bought an ice cream store when i was 14 (in 1980; am 59m). I had developed a horrible stutter in 3rd grade that had morphed (mostly, though I still stuttered) into a dreadful block by the age of 12 or so. They had no idea (never told anyone!) that i wasn't even able to say "hello" on the phone! Now - i was thrust (no choice but to start working at their store) into a "customer facing" environment! I dreaded going to work! I dreaded having to say "can i help you" to a customer! :( I'd go on - but won't! I still have nightmares to this day of "working at the store"
