Do I stutter? Why? And some other questions So I do think I stutter, but I don’t want to diagnose myself with something without truly understanding it. A lot of the time when I’m talking to people, there will be certain words that I just can’t get out, especially the first word of a sentence. I tend to say “uhh” before anything else, since it helps to get stuff out clearly. This can also happen mid conversation/sentence, and I have to pause for a second, or choose a different word as a workaround. So my first question is, is this a full on stutter (I’m not sure exactly the terminology to be using), or could it maybe be caused by other things? Secondly, why do I stutter? I do it a lot around most people during conversations, even close friends, and at places like my job, where I do speak with customers. But it just doesn’t happen with some people it seems like, whenever I bring up the fact I stutter when my mom is around, she has no idea what I’m talking about, because I rarely do it while speaking to her. And I don’t think it’s an anxiety thing, because like I said, it happens with friends as well, and other places that I’m comfortable. I also think kinda slowly. I mean sometimes people talk to me, and I blurt out something so fast that it was more of a reaction than a response. But sometimes I have to think about something for a while before any words come to mind, and sometimes people seem confused, like I’m ignoring them or something. I’m not sure if this is related, but maybe the information could help find answers. Finally, I wanna talk about one thing that is really tough for me to explain, and has the lowest chance of being related to this topic to my knowledge. I usually describe it as a clearing throat action. It’s the same sort of action, like if you tried clearing your throat even if there was nothing in it. Although I think a better description would be like trying to hum a really low note, or maybe a bit of both. (sorry if you’re not getting it, it’s not easy to explain). Basically there’ll be a feeling in the back of my throat pretty often, and I’ll do that weird hum thing to make it a bit less agitating. I do it almost constantly, and people will occasionally notice and ask what I’m doing. And if this description of it is any indication, I won’t know how to respond usually… Probably an unrelated thing, but I was just thinking mouth problems I don’t have an answer to lol
