>*"neurological vs psychological"* In [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Stutter/comments/16tqfpq/comment/k2hic7w/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) post I discuss neurological vs psychological. In brief, I think it's a common misconception that many who stutter equate their condition with a neurological component akin to brain damage (brain lesions).. some breakdown of critical molecular processes, or something of that nature. I argue that stuttering is distinctly not neurological in that traditional sense of the word (*e.g., see* [*this*](https://www.google.com/search?q=persistent+developmental+stuttering+vs+neurogenic+stuttering)*: persistent developmental stuttering vs neurogenic stuttering).* I think that people who stutter often tend to harbor the belief that their bioneurology should mirror those of fluent speakers - in order to naturally recover from stuttering. However, research has unveiled a different reality (*e.g., see this* [*research*](https://www.reddit.com/r/Stutter/comments/15p7rjq/there_is_an_abundant_publications_of_research/)). To put it plainly, adults who have successfully attained subconscious fluency and no longer experience stuttering residue (unlike recovered children), in the majority of cases they did not emerge with the same neurological attributes as fluent speakers (*e.g., see this* [*research*](https://www.reddit.com/r/Stutter/comments/161bj9m/tips_to_improve_stuttering_from_the_research/)*: Unassisted recovery from stuttering: Self-perceptions of current speech behavior, attitudes, and feelings*). Check out [this](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0094730X16301267) research as well: *Stuttering treatment and brain research in adults: A still unfolding relationship*. I argue that PWS re-wired themselves to reinforce maladaptive neurological pathways. This adaptation could serve as a set of self-imposed rules to filter out speech initiation under certain conditions e.g., when we feel stuck or out of control. Future studies should investigate this underlying bio-markup to overrely on maladaptive conditions to decide whether to initiate speech (e.g., see [this](https://www.google.com/search?q=%22stuttering+%22research%22+%22out+of+control%22)).
