Fluency may increase when techniques/tricks are implemented, but those are often quite difficult to maintain across all contexts. Ultimately, stuttering will never stop being a part of our lives, so reducing it when it will not ever be eliminated doesn't remove the need for us to accept it as part of our identity (I know that can be a hard thing to come to terms with, which is okay!). For many, many people who stutter, growing toward a point where techniques/attempts to reduce stuttering are hardly even a consideration anymore leads to incredibly positive outcomes - this stems from learning that fluency is not required to be an effective communicator. Of course, if stuttering was easy to "fix", then we would fix it, but putting our focus on other aspects of communication and well-being that can be more easily modified ends up being a really healthy avenue for lots of people who stutter.
