Again... the sheer arrogance. You know absolutely nothing about stuttering. You've never lived with it nor had to think about it for longer than 2 seconds. Allow me to educate you since you clearly did not watch the video. Stuttering doesn't go away. Some people, like our president, are able to pass as non stuttering because they've gotten very good at using various techniques to hide it. But these techniques do require a person who stutters to hone in and focus on all the different components involved in the physical act of speaking. Imagine trying to control the physical pressure on your tongue and lips for every word you ever spoke while, at the same time, trying to monitor and control the intensity of vibrations in your vocal folds. And don't forget to also monitor your rate of inhale and exhale on every breath. Now imagine doing all this and still feeling yourself about to get stuck and having the mental dexterity to swap one word for another word with similar meaning on the fly without stopping to think about it. These are just a few of the things "former stutterers" do every time they have to use their voice. It's incredibly difficult to pull off. Even those of us who are able to do it will often revert back to our old speech patterns simply because the mental requirement is too much for us to maintain it longterm. But even these "former stutterers" have moments where they stumble. If you had watched the video you would have heard him talk about how when he's tired, he's more likely to stutter. You talk about his mental decline like a parrot talking about a cracker. Am I having a conversation with one of the talking heads on TV or an actual human being? Nobody is arguing that he's not old. Obviously he is old and with old age comes a general slowing down of all bodily systems. And yet he is still able to speak fluently, albeit with less frequency than ever before. Those times you've seen him start to say something and then end it with something like "oh whatever", that's him stuttering. He is having a block and physically unable to produce the sounds of the next word. And rather than do what most of us do in that situation (keep struggling, try to force the words out, etc..) he just says, "oh whatever" and moves on to something else. Nobody here is saying that his age doesn't have an effect on him. Likewise, nobody is saying that 100% of his gaffs are due to stuttering. What we are saying is that, unlike the talking heads on TV, we actually know what we're talking about because we've lived it every day of our lives just like our president has. We know what stuttering looks like and we know how many people perceive it. And we know that most people in the world don't know, and don't care to know, the first thing about it. So it really pisses us off when one of our own has defied the odds and made it to the top of the mountain and then have to listen to people minimize and/or deny the existence of one of the biggest obstacles ever placed in his path.
