Things which helped me to overcome 70-80% of my stammering. Hi, a long time stammerer here. Over the time I have worked upon myself and my stammering which has helped me overcome my stammering by a lot especially the big blocks which were bad for me. Right now I have a great career as an IT Professional and I do have daily meetings and all, in which I am comfortable enough to talk to the client and other people without much issues. Here are the things which helped me in the long run ( all the below things were done by me since last 8 years minimum): 1) Joining a local self help group ( i am assuming these are generally everywhere and are free to join and participate, like in US we have NSA, in India there is TISA ). These help groups really help out with out with the fear of communicating with strangers and help us open up a lot. 2) Meditation: I made sure i was doing meditation for at least 30 mins daily. This helped me regulate my thoughts, emotions and breathing cycle. 3) Pranayam: (Probably people in west might not know this, its an Indian Yoga technique). This helps regulate your breath a lot. I used to take a lot of short breaths, but this exercise really helped me regulate that and prolonged my breath span, which actually had a great impact on my speech overall. Again 30 Mins daily. Also, I have been doing this ( plus meditation ) since last 8 years minimum. There are no overnight or immediate results in this, its extremely gradual and incremental. 4) Healthy sleep cycle: I have made sure to maintain a healthy sleep cycle of 8 hours daily. I sleep around 10-11 PM and wake up around 7-8 AM. 5) Overall healthy physical and emotional life balance. Side Note: During my early practice of these things I was very rigorous in overcoming my fear. So I voluntarily gave any job interview even if i didn't want it. I gave around 300-400 interviews in around 2 -3 year span period ( before covid) which greatly helped my overcome my fear of public / stranger speaking. And I still make pro active effort to talk to strangers in order to over my nervousness and fear of stammering. Hope this helps. Will answer anything in comments.
