Well, I don't think people feel sorry for someone who stands up for themselves. It's not about being oversensitive. It's about showing people what's acceptable and what's not. Unfortunately, a lot of people need to be shown this like they are children. If you don't want them to be afraid to mention it, then you can say exactly that. But making fun in a cruel or humiliating way is not OK, is it.
