I will certainly strive to make sure the readers understand how difficult it is, but I think it being difficult to read, especially in my genre, simply wouldn't be allowed by editors or agents, full stop- not to say I don't think that's a little silly. Lots of rigidity in the publishing industry... But I agree about the unpredictability! You're not the first one to have brought it up. I will include a few variations to my pattern in my stammer edit- I like patterns a lot, they make sense to me and make things easier, but not at the sake of realism.
