I have been programming for 15 years, I manage 4 people and have a severe stutter. Communication is critical for the role but it isn’t sales with lots of outbound calls. It will be daily communication, typically with a small team. I would recommend IT as a lot of companies are progressive and supportive. However, you need to meet them in the middle. Disclose that you have a stutter, fall back to other tools like presentations and chat to get your ideas across as required. You will become more comfortable as you do this and you will find things get easier. I don’t know if it applies but it is worth saying that hiding and not speaking is going to lead to a miserable life. I would recommend against freelancing websites. Labour from the east drives prices down, it is very competitive and most people only just scrape by. At worst this can become an excuse to not get out there and make a decent living.
