I told my wife on our first date, we sat down to eat at a restaurant and were just chatting, felt a block coming on, stopped and said, sorry I stutter at times just so you know. We have been married for 8 years, have two beautiful children and a third on the way. Long story short, don't let it define you, own it as part of you. If someone doesn't appreciate all of you then they are not worth having any of you. Also, I've found just admitting it in social setting when it comes out brings my anxiety way down. I still get the ole fashioned "what, did you forget your name?" But I just ignore it, move on, and think if you only knew asshole.
