I joined this sub to learn more about experiences had by people like the best professor I ever had, who I'm now lucky enough to work for :) It's not a one-size fits all solution, of course, and it's certainly not easy, but when he told us on the first day of class about how he has a stutter and that him being a professor is something that he thought he could never do when he was thirteen, it changed my life by inspiring me to challenge the assumptions I'd been making about what my future would look like with my wheelchair. The advice isn't easy, it's scary and uncertain, but it's definitely not just a cope.
