*person with a stutter who’s a final year speech pathologist student* Stammering is such a unique case to each individual that some methods of therapy won’t work for everyone. I, for example, have stuttered all my life (I’m 21) and I was on the speech and language therapy for 10 years, and it still wasn’t cured. Other people’s stammer May go away quicker or with less intervention - and some not all. Furthermore, looking at interventions for stammering itself is one hell of a task - there are SO many different approaches and therapy methods - and of course it’s not going to work for everyone. Unfortunately a stammer can’t be cured - sometimes it goes away naturally and other times it can be managed with effective techniques, it’s varied. In recent years there’s been a movement regarding attitudes of stammering where before - interventions such as DAF and Lidcombe Project focused on improving fluency - but now the focus is more on embracing the stammer and managing the feelings/ acceptance of a stammer through CBT or ACT.
