I stuttered my entire life until at 70 a very astute psychotherapist believed I might have been triggered by my abusive childhood. Wow! Was she ever correct and within a few months I realized I no longer stuttered. Amazing after 65 years as a stutterer. About our first child who began to stutter at age 3. I remember making all kinds of deals with God she would only not be cursed with this malady I felt had negatively influenced MY life. Who knew many children manifest stuttering in their early speech and recover a few years later? My wonderful, amazing, daughter Starr, recovered naturally and has no memory of ever being dysfluent. Don't jump to the conclusion that once a stutterer, always a stutterer. Although both her paternal grandmother and I stuttered, our daughter’s speech was fluent after the age of 5. Keep the faith your child will recover. If the dysfluency continues after the age of 6, it's not too late then to consult a speech/language therapist. Making speech fluently a priority too soon just adds unnecessary stress to the early speech process. Only remember to be patient with your child and keep treating him like the previous gift he is, whether fluent or not.
