I began going to speech therapy about a year ago. I definitely feel like I would have began to hate myself more and more because of my stutter if I didn’t end up going. My speech therapist was honestly great. She taught me a lot of individual strategies such as cancellation, pseudo stuttering, pull-out, easy onset, etc. I do feel however that the pseudo stuttering strategy didn’t really help and I feel it was more counter productive than helpful. But ultimately, I am glad I went. It helped me feel better about my stutter and that I didn’t have to be perfect with my speech. I do feel at some points my parents were misinformed about the helpfulness of the strategies. At one point my mom thought I wasn’t using my strategies a lot of the time when in reality I was and she thought the strategies were supposed to completely eliminate the stutter when that was never the purpose. But that got patched up later. In conclusion, speech therapy definitely helps.
