I completely agree with you. It feels condescending when a person tries to interrupt to egg you on because I'm not asking for it in the first place. Even if they mean it in good will. For OP, i think the best way is to wait, as SupremeCowJumper has said. I think solidarity is the best way to make the person welcome.
