I'll be 27 this year. And I still stutter. But over the last couple of years, the situation has improved. A lot. I still have my bad days. Sometimes that's really depressing. But it's still leaps and bounds from where it used to be. What did I do in this last couple of years? 1. I became a graduate TA. That meant I had to teach classes. And the first semester it was tough. Very very tough. But it gave me a chance to go out of my comfort zone and practice speaking and I really wanted to become a good teacher. 2. I realized that a lot of the issues that I had with stuttering were of my own making. I realized that mostly the audience didn't mind the stuttering as much as I did. I realized that I can be a good speaker despite my stuttering and just because someone doesn't stutter does not mean that they are a good speaker. 3. I joined toastmasters. Quite possibly one of the best decisions of my life. 4. I tried to change my style of delivering speeches. Instead of just relying on spoken words, I use eye contact, body language, props, etc, to get my message to the audience. This not only helps with the stutter but also makes the speech more lively. 5. And now I am trying to go more out of my comfort zone and mix with people. But this is really had for me to do. However couple of years ago I wouldn't even have thought of doing it let alone actually try it. I think that's a pretty good improvement.
