Try to think of it like this: the big picture goal is for the child to communicate effectively. No adverse anxiety about communication, avoidance, discomfort, or barriers. People often think of "fluent speech" as what we want for a child, but that is only a means to an end. It's just one way of achieving open, confident communication. Children also communicate effectively when they speak authentically even with stuttering, when they speak up and advocate for themselves, when they form meaningful relationships, and when they participate fully in their school environment. If the child has that communication effectiveness, we are already there!
