A practical piece of advice that really allowed me to lose the fear of stuttering and enables me to express myself naturally without the constant agony of negative anticipatory thoughts, is as follows. Detaching your self worth from your stutter. This may be something that you think to yourself and say I already know this and it's a lot easier said than done And I totally getThat. But I think understanding the reason behind or the logic behind why you must need to do this will Grant you with the ability to implement this into your life. The reason why we should separate our self worth from our stutter is because when you stutter in the moment you couldn't have controlled it. If you could have controlled it, you would have. it was out of your control in the moment. your stutter is simply a reflection of how you feel inside. And because of this judging yourself worth off of an outcome that was completely out of your control is the most ridiculous thing in the world we've been trained to do it but it is ridiculous. The only thing that will allow you to actually overcome your stutter is by consistent action, that's it. And if you start to judge yourself off of your stutter even though you're taking action you are going to completely mess up the process. For example one of the mindsets that I had to ingrain in myself that allowed me to overcome my Stutter, speak without fear, and be able to express my true self, Is "stuttering is good". Stuttering is good because in order to overcome the stutter we have to constantly leave our comfort zone we must constantly leave what we feel it's safe to prove to our brain that what we once viewed as dangerous or unsafe is actually our brains manifestation of our own insecurities. And what's more uncomfortable and outside of our comfort zone then to stutter and not repress. to stutter in keep on going is very uncomfortable. And we as humans grow under tension, think about at the gym you don't grow muscles if your lifting light weights if you have no tension. you have to add tension, so when speaking the only way to grow and overcome stuttering is through facing tension and not repressing, facing tension and keep on going. But if we judge ourselves based off the outcome, based off of a stutter and we say we failed because we stutter, we are doing ourselves a major disservice because we are attaching our own Self worth to something that is outside of our control. I hope this made sense. Let me know if you have questions 🤟 (I wrote this with voice to text, so I hope is was coherent lol)
