Mary Louise Dowell, the stuttering showgirl!

Mary Louise Dowell, the stuttering showgirl! I've recently discovered a great bio, a statuesque Broadway showgirl Mary Dowell who was nicknamed "Stuttering Sam" because of... well, you've guessed it right: she had quite a strong stammer, and in spite of that, she became the most celebrated showgirl in New York. It was reported that "Mary minded her stammer not at all, and her naturalness charmed cynical New Yorkers... columnists publicized her stuttering quips ("Where did you get that mink coat?" a Stork Club diner asked Mary Louise. "I found it on the s-s-s-s-subway," replied Stuttering Sam)". She is mentioned in the novel "Fort Worth" by Leonard Sanders, "Amon: The Texan who Played Cowboy for America" by Jerry Flemmons, and some other sources. Here are the photographs of her I was able to find: [Mary is in the center](https://i.redd.it/4fax3qgs7ry11.jpg) https://i.redd.it/cgir965w7ry11.png [\(Mary is on the left\)](https://i.redd.it/1qdao4vy7ry11.jpg) [Mary's wedding \(reportedly she didn't stutter when she said \\"I do\\"\)](https://i.redd.it/na5b1cd78ry11.png) https://i.redd.it/wx6xk28ix6z11.jpg https://i.redd.it/kf3sfugkx6z11.jpg https://i.redd.it/zpn8bownx6z11.jpg https://i.redd.it/i4krv12qx6z11.jpg
