Thank you so much for your thoughtful and helpful reply. Is it still common for young children to experience periods of disfluency even well after their major burst of language acquisition? I realize that children acquire language and adopt increasingly sophisticated syntax as they grow older, but our son (who will be four on Saturday the 27th) had his language “explosion” between 15 and 20 months. Since then (and until one month ago), he spoke fluently in full sentences. (He lagged quite a bit in gross motor and still does, but he has always been verbally precocious.) Separately, I have also read that certain asthma medications have been implicated in childhood stuttering, and he began a new inhaler around a month before he started stuttering quite a bit. (We are planning to ask our pediatric pulmonologist about this next wk.) Please let me know if you have any thoughts on the above. We would be happy to compensate you for a consultation, too!
