I’m similar to you where I sometimes have substitute words in mind if I’m in a situation like a job interview where I know I’ll be stressed, and be worried about trying to say a key word. [Checking out a thesaurus](https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/remember) entry for specific words and phrases can be helpful if you’re in a spot where you need to avoid a word. Edit: so for example, using the phrase you’re asking about plus that thesaurus entry, you could say “can you remind me what ____ is.” It would depend on the context of the conversation tho
