Yeah, lots of stutterers report being able to circumvent (more or less) stuttering by pretending to be someone else, or performing so far outside of normal personality that it feels like being someone else. I don't think anyone's reporting that it necessarily sticks forever. In so far as there's a novelty or "distancing" factor involved, it's likely that the more used you get to it, the less efficient it is. - One thing I make a point of noting in this topic is that the more you pretend to be someone or something else, the more you risk losing the feeling of being yourself, simply. This is something that's worth paying attention to, since our mental health can actually get worse, if we keep that sort of thing up. You might think of it as merely yet another way of avoiding or dodging the stutter - and to be blunt, avoiding or dodging the truth is unhealthy. You mention this yourself, I know. But it's definitely something to think about.
