I Will Never Get Picked For A Job Because There Will Always Be A Normal Functioning Candidate I recently applied for a job that I could do perfectly well with no hassles. Not only well, but I could do it at a faster rate (than what they mentioned) and even told them I'd accept a salary at the lower base end. There were 2 rounds of interviews. They gave me a take-home assignment and I finished it in less than half the time they gave me. And the job had very few applicants (I checked the stats on the portal). And if that number was low, that means that the number who made it to the final round would be even lower. I'm guessing there were maybe 4 or 5 candidates (AT MOST). It was more likely that it was just me and another one lol. I didn't get the job and some part of me is telling me its because of my stutter. I have a severe stutter btw. It's not a mild personality quirk (like Porky or Professor Quirrel). It's enough to make people uncomfortable. And then the truth hit me. I probably will never get a job because no matter where I apply, there will be AT LEAST ONE normal candidate who can talk/function normally. Why would they pick me when they will anticipate all that anxiety that dealing with me would bring? Like taking 10 seconds to say something when a normal person can say it in 4 seconds. Communication struggles and how it might affect productivity? People make decisions that will help improve the company.....not create more obstacles. HR people are tasked with hiring good workers. Why would any HR person RISK THEIR OWN JOB by choosing me and then when I show up to the workplace and stutter all the time, everybody would point their fingers at that HR person and say " Hey didn't you hire that guy? lol ". That's how HR people think. They know that every decision they make reflects on them. And they don't want to hire someone who will attract a lot of negative attention because then they will also receive attention.
