I used to work in a big box retail shop, in the PC department. The digital camera department was right next to us, so we all were cool with each other and interacted just fine, or so i thought. I happened to stumble upon the FB page of one of the camera sales guys and it was splattered with pics of both camera and PC sales folks having the time of their lives at Chelsea Piers. Apparently it was something they did every weekend after work. Needless to say it hurt quite a bit. 3 years i worked there, i never knew they all hung out like this, and no one ever asked me to join or invited me or even told me about it. I never brought it up with any of them. It just made me realise how much of an outsider i seemed to be even amongst people i worked with daily for years and who i considered at least, "workplace friends". I'm getting up there age-wise and it begins to wear on you (me, in this case), what you lack in terms of social skills and socialising with people. It's not a happy feeling at all. \*\*An Aside... The only "good" thing to happen to me in a long time (in my typical mundane and morose daily life)... Went in for a job interview the other day (went fairly well - at least for me, didn't mumble as much) and did something i've never done before in my whole adult life. After the interview, the interviewer asked if i had any questions/comments, and i just put it out there that i have a speech disfluency, I stutter (explained the situations where it manifests the most/least), and if he noticed. We had a respectful convo about it, and refreshingly enough, he said he noticed it slightly, but it didn't bother him. He seemed and sounded honest about it (even though i took it with a grain of salt). Let's put it this way, i've "lost oppourtunities" in the past where my stuttering was a "non issue". Anyway, got a call back asking me to come in. Fingers crossed.
