There are already drugs that work for some people though (note that they don't cure it usually,, they only lessen it). The issue is with side effects. The only reason they're studying ecopipam is that it may have less side effects. It is complicated, but so are things like depression, BPD, Tourette's, etc, and we have plenty of medications that can lesson symptoms of each. I'm not expecting a cure, but if it lessens symptoms for most people that would be enough. The only barrier medication has to cross is: Do more good than harm. Arguably currently medications don't meet that standard, but this might.
