> Something I've recently started doing in the last year or so is flat-out telling someone (be it on the phone, in person, on online dating profiles, whatever) that I stutter. Maddeningly enough, for me it's actually easier to talk after that, since a) the other person knows what's going on and b) you don't have to worry about "hiding" your stutter since you just told the other person about it. My stutter and my attitude toward it really shifted once I began doing this. Highly recommend! Instead of feeling some huge responsibility to make the conversation fluent for as long as possible (and all the dread that comes with it, because that first stutter WILL happen), it's this really freeing sense of 'here it is, it's up to you to deal with it'. Stutterers often seem to feel like all the work falls on their shoulders. But communication is a team sport, it's nice to remember that. You have good answers and should feel good.
