I just did my first open mic for standup comedy!! Y’all. I like cannot even contain myself right now. I’ve been taking a standup comedy class bc I’m absolutely terrible at talking in front of people and I want to get better at it, and one of the suggestions was to go to an open mic so you won’t be freaked out at the showcase. So I did it. And I talked about having a stutter a bit and talked a bit more about other things, and even though I stuttered, people laughed!!!! I’m almost giddy. I called my mom afterwards and she very nearly cried on the phone when I told her about it, she was so excited too. I had to tell someone else, so this page seemed like a good place!! After struggling for nearly 2 decades w my stutter, I finally managed to get up on stage and say “fuck it, this is who I am, stutter and all.”
