Xanax makes my stutter temporarily disappear - Thrilled and heartbroken at the same time I have been diagnosed with a fluency disorder which is heavily impacted by my anxiety. I have struggled with my speech since a child (now 28). Dealing with my speech fluency disorder is a daily struggle, limits what I do and is highly embarrassing. I have recently managed to acquire some Xanax (0.5mg) and on each occasion I have taken the drug, my stutter has all but vanished for approximately 4-6 hours until it wears off. I have tried therapy for my Anxiety and speech alongside SSRI’s but nothing has come close to Xanax. I still feel significant internal tension before speaking as I usually do when trying to speak, but the words simply come out and flow much better than usual and i do not avoid speaking to people, in-fact it is the contrary. Whilst this is great, I acknowledge that Xanax is a short term solution and so I will only take it before big occasions. It hurts to know that this is the case, as it gives me a tiny glimpse into what my life would feel like without my stutter hanging over me.
