I couldn't agree more, Sir. I’m 18 and have been encapsulated in this physical cage since I was 7. Self-talk (talking to yourself), thinking out loud, speaking in front of the mirror (alone) are some instances where stuttering doesn't even get close to me. It is indeed more of a psychological game, and whoever aces this game, makes it to a whole new level. On the contrary, I was on this speech therapy program, which was quite intensive, and that focused more on affirming this idea. You just continue to affirm yourself in every positive manner possible till you no longer find the need to do so. I have gained effective control over my stutter, by focusing on the technical aspect more rather than the psychological one. The irony here is that I have been stressing on the psychological aspect more than the strategic one, and I overcame stuttering by working on the technical aspects of it. I believe, excelling the psychiatric disorders, is something I would call as ”Easy said than done.” You gotta apply those speech techniques. The only belief that works psychologically is that you have to make yourself aware of the fact that there is no ”quick-fix” when it comes to stuttering. You have to be patient, and it’s all worth the time and effort.
