I'd love to think the same as you, but I don't know, I think people do notice the stuttering and they find it weird. I don't have many friends and I think my stuttering is the cause of it, even though of course nobody has never said to me 'hey, I dislike your stuttering, stay away from me'. But unfortunately I feel that in our society is way more important how you say something than what you're actually saying. (Sorry for this pessimistic vision. To be fair I have to say that over the years I've found (few) people that don't really care whether I stutter or not, but it's hard to find those kind of people!)
