I've always refused to put myself in public speaking situations. I know what I want to spend my life doing has nothing to do with public speaking. There is no reason to force a person that has a speaking disability to speak in front of a class that has no idea what you are going through. It's not just being nervous. It's more than that. You wouldnt force an autistic person into a band class if sounds overwhelmed them. You wouldn't make a blind person take art. Then why would a teacher showcase a person literally at their worst if they don't even know what the whole picture is. My speech therapist gave me an orange card from the stuttering foundation and I give it to every one of my teachers on the first day of class since my senior year of highschool and into college. When they read that card they realize it's more than being anxious.
