I am not a person who stutters so take my recommendation with a grain of salt. I’m a speech therapist and have also worked as a server for 8 years part time. If you’re comfortable w it, let them know at the start of the interview that you stutter and educate them about how to communicate if you do stutter (I.e. don’t finish your sentence for you). I think that would illustrate to them a sense of agency and control about who you are which is a desirable trait in an applicant! Of course, that is only if you feel comfortably disclosing that info. It’s illegal for hiring managers to discriminate due to disabilities so it could actually be better to let them know…… the law unfortunately is not fool proof and many, many people still do discriminate based on disability :/ I also know not all people who stutter consider it a disability so I’m not trying to imply that either. For customers, I think that’s up to you. Working in customer service you face a lot of assholes, stutter or not, so just be aware that you likely will get people who comment about it. Your choice if you want to tell them if it’s a stutter or not. I don’t think n there’s anything wrong with that. The fear is normal and I think it’s great that you’re facing it from a young age.
