I am reflecting back on the moment in high school when my English course was reading Romeo and Juliet. All the students were assigned characters. No one wanted to be Romeo so students had to take turns being Romeo each day. And …. My teacher knew I was self-conscious about my speech impediment so she gave me the character that had the least amount scripts/parts . And one day I volunteered to be Romeo and I did not stutter while reading out loud. One time in another English course, we had to be in groups of two and read to each other and I did not stutter. The question is… Can stuttering be all in my head? Or our heads? I am not a severe stutterer but my stutter can be noticeable at times, especially if I’m stressed. I am pretty fast talker which causes me to stumble on my words even more. It seems like I don’t have the confidence in my speech like I once had a few years ago.
