Something I learned in speech therapy was that in addition to taking a breath, slowly exhale before speaking and sort of ease into the first sound, especially if it's a hard one. You can almost "soften" a hard sound and do it just enough to help with the sound but not enough to change the sound noticeably. It can take some practice but it's a good technique.
