> I was thinking of going back to the old habit of using filler words or repeating previous words to fill in blocks, but then I'm like "do I really have stutter then? Am I essentially just faking a repeat type of stutter to buy time?" I did the repeating phrases for years, in hopes of some kind of momentum will carry me through the block. I would recommend not doing this. It is a secondary behavior and it only makes your stutter more complex. After recording myself and hearing myself in these moments I feel that it actually sounds worse and harder for the listener. For me, i was doing it out of fear of the block / stuttering moment. Repeating what I just said seemed liked a better option. It has been very, VERY hard for me to reverse this behavior. It's probably been about a decade since I tempted to reverse it and I still do it at times.
