I think you should go for it! When I first started working in highschool I worked at an arcade which required interacting and speaking with lots of strangers, and I think it helped me a lot just as sheer practice speaking to lots of people. Just remember that it doesnt really matter if you have blocks or stutters, people will just have to be patient with you, it's not as big of a deal as we tend to build it up to be in our heads.
