Yep very similar situation here! This is quickly becoming a mini obsession of mine - the fact that the recording has such a powerful effect is fascinating. Is it simply a cue that our unconscious mind is picking up? I wonder what would happen if you repeated the same recording attempt multiple times, but knew that for 50% of the attempts the recording wouldn't actually start. 10%? 1%? Or if there was **no indication at all** that the recording was on (no audible beep or "please leave your message after the tone: " prompt). What does awareness of something even look like in the brain? Maybe just being aware of the idea of recording is sufficient to trigger stuttering. And then you can ask why is it that the concept of recording triggers the stutter and not, say, holding up your left arm? It's insane.
