i'm sorry but this statement is highly inaccurate. most speech therapists will agree that pressure in the abdomen/lower diaphragm area is one of the main triggers for (severe) blocks, it is not a secondary symptom. muscle relaxation in general is greatly effective in order to promote both physical and psychological alleviation in the long term, therefore promoting fluency ([source - page 21-24](http://www.stutteringhelp.org/sites/default/files/migrate/book0012_11th_ed.pdf)). temporary distractions like finger-tapping or monotone speech is a whole different area. OP is doing it right ;)
