This is a very important question, and very important in learning how to cope/heal with the condition. Most humans who speak also speak with repetitions, prolongations, flubs. George Steohanolopois just interviewed Biden about the debate and had a fairly long repetition at the beginning. The difference between us and them is the amount of flubs, *and how embarrassed you are by others hearing them*. Ultimately, too much embarrassment leads to hard silent blocks, undesired odd verbal timing, odd eye movements, etc. Nearly 100% of listeners have no *idea* and no way know knowing that the root cause of your oddly timed pause is a deeply rooted fear of being judged for speaking weird. Sadly and ironically, our heroic attempts to “speak normal” lead directly not “speaking normal”. When we pause, the listener is initially waiting patiently, then confused, then concerned. we perceive their facial expressions as mocking because our brain has been telling us *since elementary school* that everyone is laughing at us. If you are being honest with yourself, you probably let out a nervous *laugh* when in a confusing verbal exchange also. Learning the difference between a confused nervous laugh and truly mocking you for a disabling condition is vital to our healing. And it’s very very hard
