Speaking with Someone who Stutters

Speaking with Someone who Stutters I'm currently on the phone with a vendor of ours; the person I'm speaking with has a significant stutter. My gut was to say "I hear that you have a stutter, and I want you to know I can understand you fine and you can take as long as you need to," but I refrained because I was unsure of that tack. At this point I'm just being patient and considerate as I would always be but wasn't sure if saying something was appropriate. Would it have been inappropriate to say that? It is only the two of us on this call. Edit: Thank you all for the feedback. I'm glad I went with the restraint in saying anything as that seems to be the consensus from all of the comments.
