I had a tech sales job and will go into business development again soon, just a different kind (financial planning). The first one was true phone sales, what’s called an ‘inbound SDR.’ Strictly for people who fill out our form or reach out in some way. I did well enough to get promoted 4 times eventually to higher customer success roles (making you actually use the stuff you bought from us, no quota) with our largest clients. I had the closest I’ve come to a panic attack on my friend’s couch after signing the offer letter, but have no regrets and learned a lot from the experience in how I communicate, how others react, and how little it matters to other people as long as you feel confident in what you’re saying and real sales is asking the right questions, so you shouldn’t be spending the whole time talking any way.
