I worked at Taco Bell for 3 months and as drive through. It was absolute hell because the nervousness of having to talk on the headset AS WELL AS knowing all my co workers can hear me really killed me, and I had to use strategies to help me get through speaking. At Taco Bell (and much like CHick Fila and various other fast food places)…you were required to say “Hi How are you” when a person was at the speaker. H’s are the worst for me, like I block so hard and seem to not be able to get over the block. So what id do is purposefully turn on the mic before hand and rustle around and then say “sorry about that Hey how are you” and that would help because after saying “sorry” it helped the flow of air and I didn’t block when I said “how are u” This worked for a good bit until my coworkers noticed and my manager (who was super cool) was like “hey why do you do that?” Not in a like “what the fuck” way but like just curious way….and I said “well I stutter really badly and saying something ahead of a sound I know I struggle with helps me talk without stuttering as much” (of course I stuttered while saying that to him) and he said “oh I didn’t even know that, well if you ever just feel overwhelmed and want to be moved to front cashier instead just let me know and we can make that happen” So I spent another week or so as drive through and then asked to switch So moral of the story advocate for yourself and honestly if you have a cool boss then things will be okay but if you have shitty boss then quit
